The Problem:
Faculty members of health professional education who distinguish themselves in their teaching roles often get promoted into leadership roles in curricula and programs. In addition to pedagogical skills and leadership skills, increased responsibilities in program leadership sometimes demands additional knowledge and skills with which the faculty members have little to no prior experience. One of the new responsibilities that faculty members may find themselves accountable for is the evaluation of an educational program.

Our Approach:
Program evaluation could be completed for the purpose of quality improvement, in response to complaints or criticism, or in preparation for accreditation. Rooted in psychology, program evaluation has evolved into its own science with many possible applications in the health professional education context. This workshop is part 1 of a 2-part series that reviews basic concepts in program evaluation, and prepares participants to apply the concepts in their own context.

Part 1: Define the framework, process, overall principles (#MacPFD14)

Part 2: Toolkit, data collection, and integration of evaluation into the program design  (planned stand-alone PFD workshop in June)
